Zoo Membership

The Zoo offers a number of dance clubs for freelancers. It has been created for dancers who either cannot make weekly commitments, or would like to learn new skills which cannot be met with their classes, for 'retired' dancers so to speak because they cannot join a full time performance group due to work commitments. Most importantly it is there to provide lots of fun dance events, socials and masterclasses.

The club aims to produce quality performances whilst keeping the commitment and training times, thanks to our 'new media' teaching approach. Anyone above 18 can become member of The Zoo. However, when there is an event or competition taking place, there will be a selection process taking place.

Members should have very regular access to the internet in order to access the Facebook group and their profile to receive important updates and invitations to events and activities.

Please note that competitions costs are not included in the membership costs.

Typically, taking part in a competition will cost on average £50 per person and will include 7 hours of rehearsal as well as the competition entry costs.

Membership FAQ

Can I still train and compete with my current group?

Of course! We don't want to steal you away from your current team! We're just giving you the opportunity to expand your dance horizons and be as involved as you want. For example: if you're part of a dance school but you can't do competitions because of the costs and times involved- no need to sulk: the Zoo is here! Do a one off competition with lots of other people in the same situation!

Do I need to take part in ALL the events?

No- with the Zoo you do whatever you like.

Do I have to attend all masterclasses / rehearsals on the calendar?

No- You only have to attend the practices for the event you sign up to. This means usually half a day for gigs, and one or two weekends for competitions.

Where do the rehearsals / masterclasses take place?

SCZ Cheerleaders are based at the Colombo Centre in Waterloo, and all other clubs are based at the Richmond Dance location.

What dance level do I need to be to be a member?

Anyone can get club membership. However please be aware that only intermediate / advanced dancers will be considered to take part in performances and competitions.

Do we get paid for taking part in performances?

Most of the events we take part in will award each participant with a £50-£70 fee. However some events we do (for charity, for example) will not be paid. You will be notified in advance if this is the case, so that you can decide whether or not to take part.

What is a Richmond Dance 5 Day Pass?

A 5 Day pass allows you to come to Richmond Dance for the duration of your membership (1 Year) on 5 different visits - for up to 3 hours of dance classes. The passes are worth £90 each (at a calculated cost of £6.00 per class x 15 classes in total)
